An iPhone that its owner thought was gone forever is back in her possession after a stranger accidentally posted a selfie to her Facebook.

Nicola Shelton, 33, had her bag taken while on holiday in Byron Bay – a popular tourist spot in New South Wales, Australia – losing her credit cards, wallet and iPhone.

But in a bizarre chance occurrence, the Melbourne woman ended up recovering the smartphone after its new owner took a selfie – and it was uploaded to her Facebook page.

Believing the man in the photo to be the thief, she reposted the picture with the caption: ‘So this is the low life that stole my bag/iPhone and has decided to take a photo with my phone…
